Billie Joe Armstrong’s Zen Surf Shack Airstream

We started this project for Green Day’s front man with a scrap of paper he found on the street one day, it said “Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love” – Rumi. These words, which Billie Joe now has tattooed on this chest, led us down a path of discovery with this Airstream. This project was commissioned by Billie Joe’s wife, Adrienne, as a 20th wedding anniversary present, so there was no room for error. We wanted this to be the most streamlined trailer we’d ever done, with vintage reclaimed flooring and a 150-year-old Indian temple piece for the bed nook. We created surfboard holders out of hand-tooled leather straps, and repurposed vintage tire shop signs (“alignment”) as dual messages for the sofa skirting. In the end, we like the think the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer, Billie Joe, is holed up along the California coast, unassumingly, in his tiny Airstream writing his next Grammy award-winning hit inside a space we created.
